CIMA is one of the principal private bio-medicine research centers to be found in Spain. Its objective is to find treatments for illnesses that currently cause some 90% of fatalities in the western world through research in four clinical areas: gene therapy and hepatology, cardiovascular sciences, neurosciences and oncology-carcinogenesis.

CIMA has come into being through the patronage of the Foundation for Applied Medical Research (Universidad de Navarra) whose social aim is to promote initiatives to foment applied and basic research within the areas of health and bio-medicine.
